We, Japanese young modern artists, have been opposed to the military power
attacks on Iraq by the United States.
While many people in the world were participating in the antiwar
demonstrations, the US Forces continued their blood shedding aggression into
Bagdad.
The result were curious victory of the US with numerous victims in Iraq
people. Though victory reports are filled to overflowing in the mass media
throughout the non-Islamic world, we need to say, "What is actually
happening in the places where news reporters are not allowed to reach?"
We have long believed in the fantasy "the middle-class happiness"
rooted
deep in
the Japanese prosperity that Japan has successfully achieved after
World War
II; but in reality many people have not realized that our prosperity
has
been controlled under the U.S. managements.
And now, as you see well it began to collapse with the dramatic
economic
crash.
We want to know: What it was? Who have made it? Where will it go?
People without power think this way now:
- a handful of people who have ample violent power can impose their
"justice" on us;
- those who have great technological power can make highly
informative
societies like ours into a well-controlled one.
No, no, no! No thanks. Never!
Unless we clearly utter a cry now, our words will be taken away from
us in
the future.
To us the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo is the nearest place to the Iraqi
War.
That's why our protest against the U.S. Embassy means a lot all
over the world.
We want to protest calmly and peacefully by displaying our art works
that
should express our words better than anything else.
We pray for the world of the next generation to be more fortunate.
We believe that art has a great power to change the world.
This action event is designed to express our feelings that tiny but
vibrant
voices are firmly present here in Japan.
